The Department of Civil Engineering and Surveying of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez offers a concentration in environmental/water resources engineering at the master's and doctoral levels. The program is normally open to civil engineering and chemical engineering bachelors. Courses that may be taken include, among others:
- Water Resources Systems
- Water Resources Planning and Management
- Stochastic Hydrology
- Ground Water Hydrology
- Applied Hydraulics
- Waterworks and Sewerage Design
- Water Treatment and Pollution Control
- and other water resources related environmental engineering courses.
The program may lead to a Master of Science degree, with thesis requirement, or a Master of Engineering degree, which requires an engineering project instead of the thesis. Related research facilities on campus include an environmental engineering laboratory, fluid mechanics laboratory, and instrumentation laboratories. This campus offers additional options with master's programs available in Agricultural Economics, Agronomy, Biology, Geology, Horticulture, and Soils. The MS and PhD degrees are available in Environmental Engineering, as noted above, and Marine Science.
